From my first Flint as the newest member of the Stoke team, to helping cultivate an event that means so much to me - the inspiration and dedication surrounding each FlintConf is palpable. This year marks my third FlintConf and I can't help but feel a surge of gratitude and nostalgia for the growth and transformation these years have brought. Not just me, but the event as a whole. Join me (Mary) in reflecting on the two FlintConfs I helped bring to Denton as we approach FlintConf 2024.
Connecting online, even with the most robust of activities and questions, is possible but lacks the impact of connecting over coffee or in a spontaneous conversation in each other’s presence. Coworking spaces can provide positive social health for remote workers, freelancers, and other people who work outside of the office or from home on a distributed team.
People choose to live in Denton for advantages like lower cost of living, the unique contributions that higher education institutions offer the community, the vibrant culture and family friendliness; all factors that make it a prime spot for remote workers and people who can choose where they work from or who are deciding where to set up shop.
In a coworking space, you’ll find people working diligently on their individual businesses, projects, and endeavors while sharing workspace. The idea of a shared workspace is often associated with misconceptions like it’s too noisy, only entrepreneurs and startups work in coworking spaces, and membership is too expensive.
Aligning with an international effort, lead by the Kauffman Foundation, to break down barriers to entrepreneurship and encourage entrepreneurial hopefuls to take the leap, we’re participating in Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), which is November 18th through November 22nd. Stoke is celebrating all week by hosting events, sharing resources, and listening to Dentonites regarding their wants and needs in terms of resources and support.
Studies have shown that standing desks are beneficial to your health, and can increase workplace productivity and your own creativity. Increased blood flow while standing = better brain power.
On the other hand, being on your feet the entire day can also be detrimental to your health and is linked to heart disease. What’s the happy medium?

Members in coworking spaces can offer their expertise, insight or resource recommendations during planned social events or organically, during a coffee break or over lunch.
