For makers, designers, engineers, and others with project ideas, Kickstarter enables them to connect with potential financial backers and raise funds to create their products. Backers can be the general public, supporters of friends’ projects, or strangers with project interest. They do not financially profit from backing the Kickstarter project; their contribution is to help the project manifest.
Leading both the Lunch + Learn from 12 PM to 1 PM, and the Community Workshop from 6 PM to 7:30 PM, both on Monday, December 10th, Clarissa Redwine will explain the fundamentals of planning, building, and managing a Kickstarter campaign as well as how to build community around the project and prepare for the campaign launch.
Clarissa Redwine is Kickstarter's Design & Technology Outreach Lead for the west coast. She travels up and down the coast in search of innovators, creators, and makers who can leverage the powerful community and storytelling tool of Kickstarter to bring creative projects to life. Before joining Kickstarter, Clarissa cofounded a nonprofit with the core mission of fostering the North Texas startup community and worked with 10 promising robotics startups as the Program Manager of the Qualcomm Accelerator, powered by Techstars.

When did Kickstarter Launch?
April 28, 2009. Within 24 hours, $1 billion had been pledged. Since then, $4 billion has been pledged and 153,737 projects have been successfully funded.
Who Can Use Kickstarter?
Creators in any industry who have a project idea with a clear goal that will eventually be completed; Kickstarter does not allow projects to fundraise for charity or offer financial incentives.
How Does Kickstarter Work?
Makers, artists, designers, and engineers (to name a few) build their project pages, creating videos and offers for backers.
Once launched and shared with the community, the project creator sets their funding goal and deadline.
People can pledge money for a project that they like, and will only be charged if and when the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal.

Lunch is provided during the Lunch + Learn from 12 PM to 1 PM. This event is free for members, with a small fee for non-members.
If you cannot make it to the Lunch + Learn, we invite you to attend the Community Workshop from 6 PM to 7:30 PM on December 10th. Content will be similar to the afternoon Lunch + Learn session. This event is free, but please RSVP for your spot.
