At Stoke’s first Lunch + Learn of 2019, representatives from North Central Texas College will talk about the North Texas TechHire Partnership (NTTP) of the TechHire initiative, a Department of Labor grant program launched in 2015. Employers who participate in NTTP can benefit from reimbursement for compensating the interns that they hire, offering on-the-job training, and providing training to advance skills for and to promote current workers. Employers partnering with NTTP also develop lasting connections to a trained workforce.

TechHire Enables Growth for Businesses and Students
The TechHire grant provides opportunity for students, current workers who need different or advanced skills, and business owners to help grow the local economy and strengthen their community.
Businesses partnering with TechHire will have access to skilled workers who have received the education and training necessary for the job through the grant program. In some cases, TechHire will reimburse the employer for a portion of an internship based on certain factors.
NTTP supports students who are studying IT, Engineering Technology, and Industrial Technology. Through TechHire, students gain:

Companies such as GE Digital, JP Morgan, and Capital One have hired talent through TechHire since its launch in 2015.
Why TechHire Is Important for Local Economies
A pipeline of tech talent helps bring new jobs to local economies, facilitates business growth, and helps lift residents into the middle class in a way that they might not have had access to before. TechHire has helped communities across the nation grow their local tech sectors.
TechHire grants support 39 public-private partnerships to help train the upcoming workforce for work in rapid-growth sectors like tech, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing. Grants aim to provide workers with the skills necessary for a pathway to the middle class while providing employers with the skille technology that workers need to grow and expand.
TechHire community partnerships and grant winners focus on the following:
Data and innovative hiring practices to encourage non-traditional hiring
Models for training that prepare students in months, rather than years
Active local leadership to connect people to jobs with hiring on ramp programs
The majority of the grants support partnerships that target, train, and support people between the ages of 17 and 29, while the remainder of the grants has gone to partnerships that help other groups with barriers to employment, including veterans, people with disabilities, and people with limited English proficiency.
